Using the Game Plan Process with Students

What came to mind when I read over the GAME plan chart (Cennamo, Ross & Ertmer, 2009, pg. 4) in the text was a KWL chart. I would like to use the GAME plan as I would a KWL chart. My plan is to have all of the students address the same standard as a goal to be set the first week of school. I will introduce and model the GAME plan and monitor student progress with their GAME plan. The students will use the GAME plan chart as a guide to their self-directed learning and will document their GAME plan in an electronic journal. After the winter break students will be asked to set a goal with a standard of their choosing. Students need to be empowered in order to take ownership of their learning and to set proficiency goals. I will continue to use the GAME plan process and become proficient in other NETS-T standards to continue to grow professionally and to better educate my students.

The NETS-S and NETS-T are inter-related in the respect that the teacher needs to be proficient in these standards in order for the students to be proficient. As the educator we need to be skillful and master the indicators in order to plan lessons, promote authentic learning experiences for students and help them to develop proficiency in the technology standards.

  1. Susan,
I agree that as educators we need to be skilled and trained in what we attempt to teach. It seems like that is getting tougher to do because of the furious speed in which change occurs in technology. You barely have time to learn and master one technique and another is thrown your way. It can drive you crazy and sometimes I think that it is just overkill. Teaching an inch deep and a mile wide is how it seems to me. In any case, use what works and add on when you feel a change is needed. Good luck with your future classes.

  2. Susan,

I like your approach as to using the GAME plan like a KWL chart. I too decided to do the same thing by making it a graphic organizer just like the KWL chart is. It keeps the students organized and focused on what they need to do to accomplish their goal of an excellent product.

  3. Susan,
I like your idea of using the GAME plan as a KWL chart. It is a great way to follow the learning of your students as they progress in the NET-S standards. It allows them to be self directed in their learning as they can see the progress they are making. It is also a quick assessment for you throughout the year on the students progression in the GAME plan and standards.

  4. Thank you all for the positive comments to my blog posting. Keeping up with the newest technologies is an on-going process that keeps you on your toes while allowing you to grow professionally. I once attended a technology professional development where it was suggested that mastering more than two new technologies at one time can be overwhelming. I really think that students and teachers will feel less overwhelmed if the GAME plan is utilized.
