Monitoring Your Game Plan Progress

The execution of an effective game plan requires monitoring the progression. I will modify my action plan when necessary to meet my goals. In my quest to learn more about how to integrate technology tools, I will continue to research information and utilize other resources.


When adressing indicator 2c Customize and personalize learning activities to address student’s diverse learning styles, working strategies, and abilities using digital tools and resources, I have learned that the students can be a good resource for ideas for integrating technology into content areas. Their ideas may be simple as they suggest using digital cameras, videos, and Power Point presentations. My concern is getting these tools for the classroom. New questions to consider now is how do I gain access to the tools at this time of the year with no money in the budget and can I get my hands on grant money for these tools? I now need to modify my action plan to focus on not just the available technology tools for instruction and learning that incorporates software, but also hardware such as digital cameras.
I will again utilize my colleagues as a resource for gaining access to digital cameras/viedo cameras. I will also survey students to see how many have access at home to these technology tools, since it is a low socio-economic area. I will also need to find information on how to effectively integrate these tools into the curriculum. In monitoring this action plan, I have learned that in order to meet my goals I need to evaluate student's strenghts and interests more closely. I do not have any real experience in video editing but I will look into a tutorial for software such as Windows Movie Maker.

For my second indicator: Collaborate with students, peers, parents, and community members using digital tools and resources to support student success and innovation, I have learned that this can be a slow process. First,I have learned that this is not the best time of year for teachers to collaborate as they are overwhelmed with parent/teacher conferences, report cards and holiday activities. While some are receptive to a teachers blogging corner, some have simply not found the time to contribute. I will also slightly modify my plan to brainstorm with teachers what content areas could benefit from video-conferencing with experts. It has also occured to me that I could modify my action plan by including video- conferencing with other classrooms across the globe. A question that comes to mind with video- conferencing with other classrooms is will I need only the permission from the district or will parents need to give permission for their child to participate? Another question that arises is although I can have students prepare questions prior to a video conference, how do I prepare them for responding to various questions? Check out this resource because it has all kinds of useful information for technology tools, technology and learning resources and internet resources as well. This site has given me much in the way of information and resources to continue to progress in my GAME plan.

    For help on programs like windows movie maker try You tube. I have found a lot of videos that help me with the smart board. I am sure there will ones on the programs that you are using also.

    Have you tried the PTA? Our PTA will buy items for our classroom if they have the money. As teachers, we just have to ask them or make a presentation at the PTA meeting. It might be quicker than trying to find a grant for this year.

    Money will always be a problem when trying new things in a classroom. I only use free programs because I know that our school will purchase nothing. Fortunately there are many free programs out there in cyberspace. Unfortunately, it takes a lot of time to locate them and try them out. I usually do this after our state achievement tests are complete. You know, that month that is left over. Anyway, I use my class as guinea pigs at that time to get ready for the next year.

    I too have little experience with movie makers, so I cannot really help you there. If you do find something out, please let me know. It will save me time and effort. Good Luck!

    I agree with Mike, that money will always be an issue and that I also use free programs in the classroom. Windows movie maker can be very easy to use and can be very easy to incorporate into your curriculum. It maybe a problem with access to digita cameras, but I sign out the computer labs cameras for a grace period and return it when done with the project. Movie Maker is a great program and students presentations gives them to think critically and creative for authentic learning.

  4. I know that money is also a problem in our district. Technology has sometimes a little easier time. If you ask at school and have no help go to district technology department and ask if there is a way to check out what you need.

  5. Thanks for the comments and ideas. I first want to address the suggestion of borrowing a digital camera from the technology department and the fact that there is only one available! Unfortunately, there is not much in the technology budget and recently the money has gone to some wonderful software programs that include Study Island and Raz-Kids. I like the idea of approaching the PTA to fund money for an additional camera or two. The suggestion of researching, exploring and implementing new technology after state testing is done is one I will try. This would probably be a great time of year to try out Movie Maker and tweak for utilizing next year. Thanks to all!

    For your second indicator I have a couple of suggestions. First, when putting a classroom blog together start off small. Send out a letter to the parents to get permission for their kids to join the blog (VERY IMPORTANT) and inviting them too to participate. Then invite teachers in your district to join. After a while, invite community business owners that have relevance to your content to join your blog. Then go after the globe angle that you seek. If you are going to go that big it will take time. It took me a whole school year to get the community business owners. As I said before, it is important to get the parents to sign off on the student use of a blog. I run into a couple of parents that were very weary but after they visited the blog they accepted it.
